Pedro Nuno Santos, the leader of the Socialist Party (PS), has called for the presence of Luís Montenegro in the next budget negotiation meeting. He emphasized that the PS does not demand to define “50% of the Budget” and only seeks “minimum conditions” to support the State Budget for the upcoming year.

Pedro Nuno Santos has made it clear that for the budget negotiations to proceed, the presence of Luís Montenegro is essential. He believes that the political leaders of both the PS and the government need to be committed to the negotiation process. Santos drew a parallel to the “geringonça” era, where António Costa led the negotiations.

Santos reiterated that the PS does not have the ambition to replace the government or be responsible for half of the budget. He emphasized that the PS only seeks “minimum conditions” to support the State Budget. The PS has specific red lines, including opposition to the proposed changes to IRS Jovem and IRC by the government. Santos argued that these policies are “wrong” and “harmful.”

The PS is open to a selective reduction of IRC, targeting companies that reinvest profits, innovate, or increase salaries. Santos mentioned that the PS would present its proposals to the government by the end of the week, although no specific deadline was committed.
