The newly appointed Ambassador of Bangladesh to Portugal, H.E. Rezina Ahmed, officially presented her credentials to the President of Portugal, H.E. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, on January 8, 2024. This significant event took place at the Belém Palace in Lisbon, marking a new chapter in the diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and Portugal.
The ceremony commenced with Ambassador Ahmed being escorted by an official from the Portuguese Foreign Ministry in a motorcade from Bangladesh House to Belém Palace. Upon her arrival, she was greeted with a military salute from the Infantry Guard of Honour, followed by the regimental band playing the national anthems of both countries.
Ambassador Ahmed conveyed greetings from the President of Bangladesh, Mohammed Shahabuddin, and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. She highlighted the recent socio-economic advancements in Bangladesh and expressed her commitment to enhancing bilateral ties, which have historical roots spanning over 500 years.
In a gesture of goodwill, Ambassador Ahmed extended an invitation on behalf of the President of Bangladesh for President Sousa to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time. This visit could further solidify the ties between the two countries and open new avenues for cooperation.
