Wine Tourism TV: The First Channel Dedicated to Portuguese Wine Tourism

Published on

Wine Tourism TV has officially launched as the first online platform dedicated to promoting Portuguese wine tourism, both domestically and internationally. Managed by the Portuguese Wine Tourism Association (APENO), the channel aims to attract tourists and foreign investment by showcasing the country’s rich viticultural regions.

The creation of Wine Tourism TV is part of APENO’s strategy to internationalize Portuguese wine tourism. Maria João de Almeida, president of APENO, emphasized the need for a dedicated platform to promote the diversity and richness of wine tourism in Portugal. Despite the sector’s growth, there was previously no specialized communication channel to highlight its potential.

Wine Tourism TV is designed for a wide audience, including wine enthusiasts, tourism professionals, journalists, and international investors. The channel aims to engage viewers who appreciate authentic experiences and wish to learn more about Portuguese wine culture.

The initial funding of €100,000 was provided by APENO and partner companies, without any state support. This highlights a missed opportunity for Portugal’s tourism sector, as the lack of governmental backing could hinder the channel’s potential impact.

According to APENO’s estimates, wine tourism in Portugal generated approximately €800 million in revenue in 2023, accounting for 4.2% of the tourism sector’s contribution to the GDP. This segment is expected to grow, with projections indicating it could represent 5% of the tourism GDP by the end of 2024.
