Three crew members of TAP, Portugal’s national airline, were detained in Madeira on Saturday for committing offenses including insults, resistance, and coercion against a staff member.

The incident occurred in Funchal, where the crew members were reportedly causing disturbances in a commercial establishment and subsequently engaged in altercations with police officers.

The arrests took place on January 11, 2025, when local authorities responded to reports of disruptive behavior by the TAP crew members, aged between 32 and 49.

The crew, consisting of one man and two women, are all residents of mainland Portugal. According to the Madeira Regional Command of the PSP (Public Security Police), the crew members were involved in aggressive confrontations with law enforcement officers who were attempting to manage the situation.

The crew members were scheduled to appear before the Funchal court on Monday, where the judge will determine the appropriate measures to be taken against them. The nature of the charges suggests that the crew’s actions were not only disruptive but also posed a challenge to law enforcement efforts.
