Wisley Kimeli and Rael Nguriatukel Dominate Lisbon Marathon with Kenyan Victory

Wisley Kimeli and Rael Nguriatukel emerged victorious in the Lisbon Marathon, showcasing the dominance of Kenyan athletes in both the men’s and women’s categories. The event, which started in Cascais and concluded at Praça do Comércio in Lisbon, saw a remarkable display of endurance and skill.

The marathon featured a competitive field, with Kimeli clocking an impressive time of 2:08:33 hours. He was closely followed by his compatriots Emanuel Kemboi, who finished in 2:09:10, and Edwin Tuitoek, who completed the race in 2:09:48.

On the women’s side, Rael Nguriatukel led the pack with a time of 2:27:11, finishing over three minutes ahead of second-place Cynthia Kosgei, who recorded a time of 2:30:36. Sheila Chebet secured third place with a time of 2:33:48, marking a clean sweep for Kenyan athletes on the podium.

Bruno Lourenço, was the first Portuguese runner to finish, he placed 11th overall with a time of 2:26:44. He expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating, “I managed to beat my personal record by four minutes.”

Laura Grilo, representing the Clube de Praças da Armada, she was the top Portuguese female finisher, coming in 8th overall with a time of 2:57:03. Grilo shared her experience, noting the challenging conditions but was pleased with her performance.
