Rafaela Fernandes, the Regional Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Environment, recently visitedOeiras, with the trip focusing on environmental sustainability and community engagement. Her efforts included a meeting with the Insular Association of Geography and a visit to fishing vessels participating in the Festa da Piedade.
Meeting with the Insular Association of Geography
Rafaela Fernandes, accompanied by key officials including the Director of Regional Land Management, Ilídio Sousa, and representatives from the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation, met with the Insular Association of Geography. The meeting aimed to invite the non-governmental organization to contribute to the revision of the Forest Management Plan for the Autonomous Region of Madeira (PROFRAM).
A follow-up meeting was scheduled to further discuss challenges related to Ponta de São Lourenço and the association’s participation in the advisory committee of the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Environment.
In another significant visit, Rafaela Fernandes visited fishing vessels participating in the Festa da Piedade in Caniçal. She was accompanied by Luís Ferreira, the Regional Director of Fisheries, and other key officials. The visit aimed to raise awareness among fishermen about environmental best practices, particularly in reducing and managing marine litter.
