Portugal is poised to enhance its support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) following recent restrictions imposed by Israel on the agency’s operations. Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel made this announcement during a parliamentary session, emphasizing the humanitarian necessity of UNRWA’s work amidst escalating tensions in the region.
The announcement comes at a critical time when the humanitarian situation for Palestinian refugees is dire. In a move to bolster support for UNRWA, Paula Santos, the parliamentary leader of the Communist Party (PCP), proposed an amendment to the 2025 state budget that would allocate an additional €5 million to the agency.
