Portugal is grappling with a severe housing crisis, and Cascais, a Lisbon municipality has taken a significant step to address it by providing affordable housing for teachers. This initiative aims to attract and retain quality educators in the region.

They have announced plans to provide 105 affordable homes for teachers who work in the region but live more than 60 kilometers away from their respective schools. This initiative is designed to attract and retain talented educators by alleviating the housing burden.

Monthly rent for these accommodations ranges from €150 to €400, depending on the type of housing. The council will also provide temporary housing for teachers who will only stay for a couple of months, such as those needed to cover sick or maternity leave.
