Lisbon’s city council has unanimously approved a motion advocating for a reduction in flight movements at Humberto Delgado Airport, rejecting any plans to increase its capacity. This decision comes amid growing concerns over public health, safety, and environmental impacts associated with the airport’s operations.

In a public meeting, the Lisbon city council, led by Mayor Carlos Moedas, expressed the urgent need to limit the number of flights at the airport. The motion was a collaborative effort among various political parties, including the Left Bloc (BE), the Socialist Party (PS), and the Communist Party (PCP). The council emphasized that the current situation at the airport is already causing considerable distress to local residents.

The unanimous approval of the motion reflects a rare moment of consensus among Lisbon’s political factions. Mayor Moedas praised the collaborative effort, stating that it is crucial to prioritize the well-being of Lisbon’s residents over political differences.
