A 29-year-old Irish man has tragically been found dead in a Portuguese prison following his arrest earlier this week. The man had been detained in Albufeira after an alleged assault on his partner, a woman in her 20s. Following the incident, she was rushed to a local hospital where she received treatment for stab wounds but has since been discharged.
The couple had been in the Algarve region for a social event. Authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, with Portuguese police conducting inquiries and liaising with Irish authorities.
Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed its awareness of the case and is providing consular support to the family.
