A flight carrying 44 Portuguese citizens who were in Lebanon and requested assistance to return to Portugal is set to arrive at Lisbon’s Figo Maduro Airport tonight, September 28, between 9 PM and 10 PM. This group includes 24 individuals who were already scheduled for repatriation and an additional 20 who requested evacuation more recently.
The repatriation operation was initiated due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which has intensified over the past 11 months following an attack by Hamas. This situation has prompted many to flee Lebanon, seeking safety in other countries.
The Portuguese government has been proactive in assisting its citizens abroad, especially in regions experiencing conflict. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the operation began on September 27, with the initial group of 28 Portuguese citizens and their direct family members being transported safely to Cyprus.
