Portugal has been officially announced as the president of the D9+ group, a coalition of European countries leading in digital transformation. This significant milestone was revealed during the Ministerial Summit held in Copenhagen, where Portugal’s Minister of Youth and Modernization, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, represented the nation. The presidency will commence in the second half of 2025, succeeding the Netherlands, which will hold the position in the first half of the same year.

The D9+ group is an informal coalition of EU member states that share similar interests and ideas regarding digital advancement. The group aims to foster collaboration among its members to enhance digital policies and practices across Europe.

This will mark the first time Portugal leads the D9+ group, highlighting the country’s growing influence in the digital landscape of Europe. The leadership role presents an opportunity for Portugal to shape discussions on digital transformation, innovation, and technology policy at a European level.
