A Brazilian laundry chain, Lavateria, is set to expand its operations in Portugal, aiming to open 100 new locations by the end of 2025. This ambitious move comes as the demand for convenient laundry services continues to rise, particularly in urban areas where busy lifestyles necessitate efficient solutions.
Founded by Leandro Silva in 2018, Lavateria began as a traditional laundry service. However, recognizing the need for a more modern approach, Silva transitioned to a self-service model. This shift allowed customers to wash and dry their clothes at their convenience, significantly enhancing the user experience.
The pandemic accelerated the demand for self-service options, prompting Silva to franchise the business. By 2023, Lavateria had expanded to 400 locations across Brazil, with projections to exceed 500 by the end of the year.
Silva has identified Portugal as a promising market for expansion. The initial stores have already opened in cities like Porto, Portimão, and Albufeira, with three more locations on the verge of inauguration. The goal is to establish 100 stores in Portugal by the end of 2025.
The cost of acquiring a Lavateria franchise in Portugal is around 35,000 euros, which covers renovations and equipment. Silva emphasizes the importance of high-quality machines and inclusive spaces that allow customers to work while waiting for their laundry.
Looking ahead, Lavateria plans to establish a European headquarters in Lisbon by 2025 to manage its expansion across the continent. The brand aims to tap into the growing demand for convenient laundry services, particularly in tourist-heavy areas where accommodations often lack laundry facilities.
