Star-Studded Line-Up Announced for 2024 International Portuguese Music Awards

The 12th International Portuguese Music Awards (IPMA) is set to dazzle audiences on May 4, 2024, at the Providence Performing Arts Center. The event promises a night of unforgettable performances by top artists of Portuguese heritage, celebrating their contributions to the global music scene.

Performers at the 2024 IPMA

The 2024 IPMA will feature a diverse array of performers, each bringing their unique style and talent to the stage:

  • Bárbara Bandeira: One of Portugal’s most popular pop singers, known for her top-streamed Spotify song of 2023, ‘Como Tu.’
  • Joey Medeiros: A three-time IPMA winner and grandson of Azorean immigrants, Medeiros has a strong fan base in Toronto, Bermuda, and Portugal.
  • Anjos: Celebrating their 25th anniversary, the duo of brothers Nelson and Sérgio Rosado is known for their best-selling album ‘Longe.’
  • Sara Correia: A leading voice in the new generation of fado singers, Correia’s album ‘Do Coração’ was nominated for a Latin Grammy.
  • Nuno Ribeiro: Known for his hit collaborations, Ribeiro’s song ‘Maria Joana’ was a finalist in the OGAE song contest in Australia.
  • GNR (Grupo Novo Rock): A legendary band from Porto, GNR has been a pioneer in the Portuguese rock scene and was awarded the ‘Medal of Cultural Merit’ by the President of Portugal in 2005.

Hosts of the 2024 IPMA

The event will be co-hosted by former NCIS: Los Angeles star Daniela Ruah and Portuguese TV and radio personality Ricardo Farias. This marks Ruah’s third consecutive time hosting the IPMA.

Award Categories

The IPMAs recognize outstanding achievement in the music industry by international artists of Portuguese ancestry. In 2024, awards will be presented in 13 categories, including:

  • Rock
  • Rap
  • Fado
  • Pop
  • Music Video
  • Best New Talent

The two New Talent finalists will perform live during the show.

Broadcast and Tickets

The show will be broadcast online and on various media outlets, including RTP International, which reaches 20 million households worldwide.

Tickets for the 2024 IPMA show are already on sale, with prices ranging from $53 to $293. Attendees are encouraged to secure their seats early.

Launch Party Highlights

The IPMA Launch Party, held on December 9, featured an acoustic performance by Olavo Bilac, lead singer of the legendary Portuguese rock band Santos e Pecadores. The night also included entertainment from DJ Son & DJ Prince of Phoenix Productions. Bilac, who has a strong connection to the region, expressed his joy in sharing Portuguese culture and making new friends.
