New Bookstore Opens in Former Pastry Shop in Lisbon

A new chapter begins in Lisbon as a former pastry shop transforms into a charming bookstore. The Re-Read store, the first of its kind in Portugal, is set to open in November at the site of the long-closed Suprema pastry shop on Avenida de Roma. This initiative aims to promote sustainability and accessibility to literature in the community.

The Suprema pastry shop, a beloved fixture in the Alvalade neighborhood for decades, closed its doors in 2014. For ten years, the space remained vacant, a reminder of the past. However, the arrival of Re-Read signals a fresh start, breathing new life into the area.

The store will offer a unique pricing model that encourages reading among young people, making literature more affordable.

Re-Read is not just about selling books; it’s about creating a sustainable business model. The store will buy second-hand books for €0.25 each, providing an avenue for individuals to declutter their homes while contributing to a circular economy.

The design of the new bookstore promises a modern and organized shopping experience. Books will be categorized by genre and alphabetically arranged, a departure from the typical layout of second-hand bookstores. Additionally, customers will receive alerts about the arrival of specific titles, enhancing the shopping experience.

As the opening date approaches, excitement builds in the neighborhood. The Re-Read bookstore is poised to become a cherished destination for book lovers and a vital part of the community, ensuring that the spirit of the former pastry shop lives on in a new and meaningful way.
