Portugal has been recognized as the Best Wine Tourism Destination in the World, a prestigious award presented by the International Gastronomic Tourism Fair (FIBEGA) based in Madrid.
In a statement, Tourism of Portugal emphasized that this award reflects the country’s commitment to excellence in both the wine and tourism sectors. Carlos Abade remarked that this international recognition is a testament to the collaborative efforts among producers, businesses, and public and private entities. He noted that it reinforces Portugal’s leadership position in global wine tourism and highlights the importance of innovation and authentic experiences that connect visitors with the local community.
Wine tourism has emerged as a growing segment of national tourism, playing a crucial role in diversifying and enhancing the tourist offering. In 2023 and 2024, Portugal has been recognized as a leader in the Wine Lover’s Index, outperforming traditional wine destinations like Italy, Spain, and France.
Additionally, Portugal achieved recognition for 11 properties in the World’s Best Vineyards 2024, with three making it to the Top 50, marking a significant increase in awarded wine tourism establishments.
