The Grandes Escolhas Vinhos & Sabores wine fair has set a new benchmark this year, drawing a diverse crowd of wine enthusiasts and professionals. The event not only highlighted the quality of Portuguese wines but also aimed to enhance the country’s wine tourism sector.
A significant aspect of this year’s fair was the presence of 20 international buyers from 14 different markets, including regions beyond the EU. These buyers met with local producers, fostering potential business opportunities.
The fair featured 360 exhibitors showcasing a wide array of wines. Attendees had the opportunity to participate in 14 masterclasses, which were well-attended and focused on rare and historic vintages not available in the market. Additionally, 25 guided tasting sessions allowed producers to present their latest releases, enhancing the overall experience for visitors.
Wine tourism emerged as a central theme at this year’s fair, with a dedicated colloquium featuring insights from industry professionals and travel organizers. João Geirinhas emphasized the significance of wine tourism, which accounts for approximately 40% of wine tourism activity in Portugal. The event encouraged producers to leverage their estates and unique cultural attributes to attract global visitors, thereby expanding their presence in the tourism sector.
