PJ Detains Man in Lisbon Convicted in Brazil for Passive Corruption

Published on

In a recent high-profile arrest in Lisbon, the Portuguese Judicial Police (PJ) detained a man holding dual nationality, wanted by Brazilian authorities on charges of passive corruption. This arrest underscores the strength of international cooperation in tackling corruption, as authorities work across borders to hold individuals accountable.

The PJ announced the arrest on October 28, 2024, stating that the operation was conducted by the Criminal Information Unit. The arrest was made possible through investigations that traced the suspect’s whereabouts following a capture order issued by Brazilian authorities last month.

Following the arrest, the detained individual will be presented before the Lisbon Court of Appeal. This court is responsible for determining the appropriate measures regarding international arrest warrants. The case underscores the importance of international collaboration in addressing corruption and ensuring that justice is served, regardless of borders.
