In a recent announcement, Fladgate Partnership has released its 2024 harvest report, highlighting the unique conditions and promising outcomes of this year’s vintage in the Douro Valley. Despite a cool overall vintage, the report indicates that the crop will exhibit vibrant fruit, fine tannins, and remarkable acidity, setting high expectations for wine enthusiasts.
The 2024 harvest in the Douro Valley was marked by a series of weather events that shaped the growing season. A wet winter preceded an early budburst on March 5, which was promising. However, the subsequent wet spring and inclement early summer posed challenges for the vines.
David Guimaraens, the head winemaker at Fladgate Partnership, shared insights on the harvest through a video filmed at Quinta da Roêda. He described the 2024 harvest as “very satisfying,” emphasizing that the ports produced this year will have plenty to say.
Guimaraens noted that while the white grapes were harvested early, the red grapes required a more patient approach to reach perfect ripeness. This careful attention to timing is expected to yield exceptional quality in the final product.
As the wine community eagerly anticipates the release of the 2024 ports, the Fladgate Partnership’s harvest report paints a promising picture. With a combination of careful vineyard management and favorable conditions, this year’s vintage is set to impress both connoisseurs and casual drinkers alike. The Douro Valley continues to prove its reputation as a premier wine-producing region, and the 2024 harvest is poised to add to its legacy.
