Alberto Ribeiro de Almeida has been elected as the president of Commission III of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), focusing on the critical areas of Economy and Law. This significant appointment took place during the OIV’s recent general assembly in Dijon on October 18, where Yvette van der Merwe was also elected as the new president of the organization.

Alberto Ribeiro de Almeida currently coordinates the legal office at the Institute of Douro and Porto Wines (IVDP). His extensive experience in legal and economic matters related to the wine sector has been recognized as a vital asset for the OIV. Gilberto Igrejas, president of the IVDP, emphasized the honor of Ribeiro de Almeida’s election, highlighting his deep understanding of national and European legislation.

The OIV serves as a key forum for scientific, technical, economic, and legal issues within the wine industry. Founded in 1924, it promotes cooperation among wine-producing countries to support sustainable development in the sector. With 51 member states, Portugal is one of the founding members, reinforcing its historical significance in the organization.
