A significant disruption occurred on the Douro Line as train services were suspended between Peso da Régua and Pocinho following the derailment of a bogie. The incident, which took place around 8:30 AM, was caused by a collision with a rock on the tracks. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, but the railway authorities have not provided a timeline for the resumption of services.
The derailment occurred at kilometer 114 of the Douro Line, specifically between the Covelinhas and Pinhão stations in the Vila Real district. A bogie, which is the set of wheels that supports the train carriage, was involved in the incident. The collision with the rock led to the suspension of all train services in that section.
The national railway company, CP, announced on social media that the historical Douro train service would be canceled due to the suspension of operations. Passengers who had purchased tickets for this service can request a refund. The company is working closely with Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) to assess the situation and determine when services can resume.
