SC Braga Eyes Ricardo Esgaio for a Return from Sporting

SC Braga is looking to bring back Ricardo Esgaio from Sporting CP. The right-back, who has found limited opportunities at Sporting, could return to the club he represented from 2017 to 2021.

Esgaio’s Journey

Ricardo Esgaio has been a part of Sporting CP since 2005, starting from the U-13 team and progressing through all youth levels to the senior team. He had a loan spell at Académica during the 2014/2015 season. From 2017 to 2021, Esgaio played for SC Braga before returning to Sporting in a deal worth €5.5 million.

During his second stint at Sporting, Esgaio contributed to the team’s success, including a national championship in the 2023/2024 season. Despite not being a regular starter, he was a valuable squad player. However, this season, he has not featured in any matches, with other players like Geovany Quenda and Geny Catamo being preferred options.

Potential Move to SC Braga

The potential transfer is facilitated by the good relationship between Sporting and SC Braga. Recently, Paulinho moved from Sporting to Toluca, with SC Braga benefiting financially from the deal. For the right-back position, SC Braga currently has Víctor Gómez and Joe Mendes, but Esgaio’s experience could be a valuable addition.

With the transfer window closing soon, the move for Ricardo Esgaio to SC Braga is expected to progress quickly. This transfer could provide Esgaio with the playing time he needs and strengthen SC Braga’s squad depth.
