Alentejo Litoral Municipalities Offer Free Summer Transport to Beaches

The Intermunicipal Community of Alentejo Litoral (CIMAL) is once again providing free transportation to the region’s beaches during the summer months of July and August. This initiative aims to reduce traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissions by encouraging residents and visitors to use public transport instead of private cars.

Key Takeaways

  • Free transportation available from July to August
  • Initiative aims to reduce traffic and emissions
  • Eight lines with 56-57 routes connecting five municipalities to 12 beaches

Free Transport Initiative Returns

For the second consecutive year, CIMAL is offering free transport services to beachgoers in the Alentejo Litoral region. Last year, the initiative saw over 10,000 users, prompting its return this summer. The service will be available daily, providing a convenient and eco-friendly way for people to reach the beaches.

Objectives and Benefits

The primary goal of this initiative is to alleviate the traffic congestion typically seen near beach areas during the summer. By offering free public transport, CIMAL hopes to reduce the number of private vehicles on the road, thereby decreasing greenhouse gas emissions. According to Vítor Proença, President of CIMAL, this initiative invites both locals and tourists to opt for public transport, contributing to a more sustainable environment.

Service Details

The free transport service will cover five municipalities within the CIMAL region, providing access to 12 different beaches. The service will operate on eight different lines, with a total of 56 routes during weekdays and 57 routes on weekends, public holidays, and throughout August. This extensive network ensures that beachgoers have ample opportunities to utilize the free transport options.

Conclusion

CIMAL’s free transport initiative is a commendable effort to promote sustainable travel and reduce environmental impact. By offering a convenient and cost-free alternative to private car use, the initiative not only benefits the environment but also enhances the overall beachgoing experience for residents and visitors alike.
