A group of 28 Portuguese citizens, along with their families, has safely returned to Portugal after being evacuated from Lebanon due to escalating conflict in the region. The repatriation operation was coordinated by the Portuguese government and the Air Force, highlighting the urgency of the situation as tensions rise in the Middle East.

The evacuation took place on September 28, 2024, with the Portuguese Air Force deploying a KC-390 aircraft to bring the evacuees back to Lisbon. Prior to this, the group was transported to Cyprus on a Falcon-50 aircraft, ensuring their safe passage out of Lebanon.

The urgency of the operation was underscored by the rapid escalation of violence in the region, particularly following the recent conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. The Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinated closely with the Ministry of Defense to facilitate the evacuation, reflecting the seriousness of the situation.
