Portugal is set to launch a new €20 monthly rail pass by the end of 2024, aimed at promoting sustainable travel and reducing environmental impact. This initiative, announced by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, will allow passengers to access nearly all urban, regional, inter-regional, and inter-city services operated by Comboios de Portugal (CP).
The Green Rail Pass is designed to make rail travel more accessible and affordable for the public. It will cover Urban Services which are Most urban and regional train services across Portugal. as well as Inter-City Travel: Passengers can travel between major cities like Lisbon, Porto, and Faro.
However, it will not be valid for premium services like the high-speed Alfa Pendular trains and urban trains in Lisbon and Porto, where additional fares apply.
