Today, Funchal and 21 other cities across Portugal are mobilizing for a series of protests advocating for the right to housing. Organized by the platform Casa Para Viver, these demonstrations aim to highlight the ongoing housing crisis affecting many citizens.

Background of the Protests

The protests are organized by Casa Para Viver, a coalition of over a hundred organizations advocating for housing rights. The movement has gained momentum over the past year, with previous demonstrations held in June and September of last year, and January of this year. The last protest saw participation from 19 cities, indicating a rising concern over housing issues.

In Lisbon, the main protest is set to begin at 3:00 PM, with participants marching from Alameda Dom Afonso Henriques to the Arco da Rua Augusta. Other cities, including Braga, Guimarães, and Coimbra, will also host similar events, all aimed at raising awareness about the housing crisis.
