Portuguese National Sentenced to Three Years in Angola for Property Usurpation

Published on

A Portuguese national has been sentenced to three years in prison, suspended, by the Viana Court in Luanda, Angola, for crimes of abuse of trust and property usurpation. The case revolves around a dispute over a 14,922 square meter plot of land in the Kikuxi urban district, which the accused claimed against another Portuguese businessman, who was also his client and friend.

The legal battle began in 2017 when the complainant requested a trade involving a concrete pump. The agreement was never finalized, leading to escalating tensions and a claim over the land where the accused had established workshops, stores, and residential areas.

The court found that the land had been sold to the complainant by the accused’s son, who had provided an irrevocable declaration recognized by notarial services in Portugal. The judge noted that the accused had failed to pay property taxes and had allegedly bribed municipal inspectors to maintain control over the land.
