CP Strike Threatens Intercidades Services Between Algarve and Lisbon

The national train company, Comboios de Portugal (CP), has announced potential disruptions to Intercidades services between the Algarve and Lisbon due to a strike called by the Itinerant Commercial Review Railway Union (SFRCI). The strike is expected to take place from October 24 to November 3, 2024, with significant impacts anticipated on October 31.

What You Need To Know

The strike has been initiated by the SFRCI union, representing ticket office workers and reviewers at CP. The union claims that the strike is a response to the company’s failure to comply with an agreement signed last July, which included provisions for a transportation allowance and a bonus for availability added to base pay. The union argues that these benefits are necessary to ensure fair compensation compared to train drivers’ salaries.

Details of the Disruptions

According to CP, the disruptions will vary throughout the strike period:

The SFRCI has expressed frustration over the situation, stating that this is the first time agreements with the administration have not been honored. The union emphasizes that the company has the financial resources to implement the agreement, which is scheduled for December 1, 2023. They are advocating for a more equitable salary structure that reflects the contributions of all employees.

Customer Impact and Refunds

CP has assured customers that those who have already purchased tickets for affected services will be eligible for a full refund or a free exchange to another train of the same category and class. This process can be initiated through the CP website or at ticket offices. Additionally, customers can request refunds for up to 10 days after the strike ends by filling out an online form and submitting a scan of their original ticket.
