ANA Invests €120 Million in Portuguese Airports This Year

ANA, the operator of Portugal’s airports, has announced a significant investment of €120 million in airport infrastructure across the country for this year. This announcement was made by CEO Thierry Ligonnière during the opening of the 7th edition of the Portugal Air Summit in Ponte de Sor, highlighting the company’s commitment to enhancing airport facilities and services.

The €120 million investment will be distributed across various airports, focusing on critical upgrades and expansions at teh airports in Porto, Faro, Madeira, Azors and Humberto Delgado in Lisbon.

Ligonnière emphasized that the company is not only focused on current investments but is also planning for the future of all its airports. He acknowledged some challenges in advancing projects at Lisbon Airport, particularly regarding obtaining the required licenses. Despite these hurdles, the company has prepared comprehensive plans for expansion and operational improvements.

The CEO also noted that 2024 is expected to be a landmark year for air traffic in Portugal, with projections indicating that Lisbon will process 35 million passengers, while the Algarve’s Faro airport will see a throughput of 10 million passengers.

Passenger figures reflect a growing trend in air travel and connectivity, with 67 new routes added this year, including 40 new destinations.
