Portuguese Wines Make A Mark In International Markets

Portuguese wines are gaining significant traction in international markets, including Angola, which has emerged as a key destination for Alentejo wines. With over 700,000 liters imported this year alone, the outlook for 2024 suggests that this figure could reach one million liters. This growth is attributed to strategic marketing efforts and a commitment to strengthening ties with local distributors and consumers.

Growth In The Angolan Market

Between January and September 2023, Angola imported a total of 709,070 liters of Portuguese wine, translating to a significant economic impact. The total export value was more than €2.5million, illustrating the growing demand for Portuguese wines in the region.

In addition to the growth in Angola, Portuguese wines have also benefited from the A Shared Passion campaign, a collaborative effort between OIVE (Spanish Wine Interprofessional) and ViniPortugal. This initiative aimed to promote Iberian wines across Europe and reached over 100 million consumers through various channels.

The campaign culminated in events held in Madrid and Porto, celebrating the achievements of this international collaboration. As the sector looks to the future, the focus will remain on enhancing consumer engagement and expanding its footprint in key markets around the world.
