The Bank of Portugal has released a new five-euro commemorative coin dedicated to the legendary Portuguese rock band Xutos & Pontapés. This coin is part of the “Portuguese Musicians” series and is now available for collectors and fans alike.
The coin, designed by the band’s guitarist Tó Trips, showcases a unique design that resonates with fans. One side of the coin features an ‘X’ made with arms, a gesture fans often make during concerts. The other side includes the band’s name, “Xutos & Pontapés,” along with the phrase “Rock ‘n’ Roll since 1979” and the letter ‘X,’ symbolizing the band.
History of Xutos & Pontapés
Xutos & Pontapés officially formed on January 13, 1979, in Lisbon. Initially named Delirium Tremens and later Beijinhos e Parabéns, the band was influenced by the punk rock scene. Despite the passing of guitarist Zé Pedro in 2017, Xutos & Pontapés have remained active and in 2019, they released a double album titled “40 Anos a Dar no Duro,” featuring 40 of their most iconic songs.
